This chunky and inexpensive volume of nearly a thousand pages is the sort of book that might result if you collected all the best published morsels relating to the PC--that is, a massive task. PC Complete is a full resource and a good starting point as a general reference to many aspects of the PC, both hardware and software, and suited to both the beginner and fairly informed home PC user. It is divided into six sections: Windows Basics; Hardware and Troubleshooting; Office Basics; The Internet; Gaming and Music; and Home Networking. Each section has several interesting articles, ranging from overviews and basic explanations to detailed instructions on how to accomplish vital tasks. The style is pleasant, "chatty" and clear, and its consistency is surprising, given that it is the product of a virtual squad of writers.
Illustrations, including screen shots, are plentiful and well-captioned. There are two large and helpful appendices: an alphabetical index of vendors, with full contact details, and a "complete hardware dictionary". The former is great, but contains only USA addresses and telephone numbers; the latter is surprisingly good. The index is reasonable, though at times you have to search through several alternative names before finding the topic you want. The sections are easily accessed through a thumb index, as a shaded tab bleeds off the edge of each page. --Wilf Hey

mass_market. Condition: Very Good. Most of our very good books have only minor imperfections such as shelf wear consistent with a new book that's sat on a bookshop shelf for a year or two. Occasionally we may miss other minor imperfections as we have to grade books at speed. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.
