About the Author Phillip A. Laplante is Dean of the BCC/NJIT Technology and Engineering Center. He has more than 14 years of experience in designing real–time systems, and was the lead software engineer in the design and implementation of a new generation of inertial measurement systems for the space shuttle. Dr. Laplante has taught courses and consulted in real–time design throughout the United States and Canada. He has published widely on real–time systems, image processing, real–time imaging, and software engineering. Dr. Laplante is the editor of Great Papers in Computer Science and the author and co–author of six other books, including Introduction to Real–Time Imaging and Real–Time Imaging: Theory, Techniques and Applications. He is also co–editor of the journal Real–Time Imaging and the IEEE Press Series on Complex Systems Engineering.
