Synopsis
Drawing on his background with the US Agency for International Development and the US State Department, Reveron explores why promoting democracy in former socialist countries of eastern Europe became an important component of US foreign policy, and how it was carried out by the State Department's Community Connections program. He discusses overlooked aspects of the policy process, implementing and continuing the policies, keeping everyone happy, and democracy as a new institutional mission.
