SPSS integration. This text is the first to fully integrate the learning of statistical concepts with learning about the SPSS program and the 1996 General Social Survey. Students read examples interwoven with explanations of statistical concepts, and perform relevant functions in the most current version of SPSS using real data from the General Social Survey.
Emphasis on the interpretation and analysis of statistics through a) orientation to a research question which the statistics will help answer; b) real-world examples of how statistics are used and interpreted; and c) examples of how to interpret and write about data followed by opportunities for students to practice their own analytical skills.
Coverage of statistical computation (both manual and computer-assisted). The book integrates manual computations with instructions for using SPSS to do computer-assisted statistical computations.
Two appendixes that include SPSS shortcuts and information on using advanced features of SPSS.
