Synopsis

The original letters appeared in Blackwood's magazine in 1847. The superstitions examined are, the divining rod, vampirism, the belief in ghosts & dreams, second sight, supposed workings of the holy spirit on masses, possession by devils (in the Middle Ages & subsequently), and witchcraft. The truths expounded are, the Od force, the law of sensorial illusions & the laws of trance.
