Synopsis

This volume was prepared as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the University of Michigan. By the advice of Dr. John Dewey, the author undertook to interpret the metaphysical notes of Berkeley's Commonplace Book, and as far as possible discover the principle of unity which occasionally manifests itself in Berkeley's works and which formed a basis for a "Treatise on the Will" which Berkeley contemplated but never produced. This principle of unity found in Berkeley has been compared and contrasts with the Unity of Kant.
