From the Back Cover

The Messaging Protocol That Will Carry the Internet into the 21st Century Covers IPv6 encryption, authentication, and other security features critical to today's Internet–based electronic commerce The fundamental messaging protocol of the Internet, TCP/IP, is more than two decades old. Its current version, IP4, is showing signs of age in terms of its address space, security features, and routing specifications. IPv6 is a critical new technology, essential for the geometrically growing population of Internet users and the exponentially increasing traffic on the net. The second edition of Supporting IPv6 shows networking professionals the how and why of making the transition and points out both IPv6's capabilities, and the potential issues it raises for network managers. Packed with illustrations, case studies, examples, and reference appendices, this indispensable guide offers the kinds of details networking pros need to meet the challenges of this new standard. CD–ROM includes over 100 documents that define IPv6 standards Inside, you'll find everything you need to

  • Learn the Ipv6 addressing architecture
  • Keep up to date with the latest Request For Comments (RFC) documents
  • Understand such host issues as upper layer protocols, APIs, and security
  • Manage Ipv6 Internetworks
  • Master transition mechanisms and routing
  • Troubleshoot autoconfiguration and local network issues
  • Understand all the capabilities and shortcomings of the next generation Internet protocol
