Carol Picard is a Professor of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She is a clinician, teacher and scholar using Newman's theory of health as expanding consciousness as the basis for her practice and research. She has published a number of articles ont he use of the theory and presented her research internationally. She is the Past President of the International Association for Human Caring and is currently President-Elect of Sigma Theta Tau International.
Dorothy Jones has been teaching nursing at Boston College for the past 25 years across all levels, including the PhD program. She has edited and co-authored many publications including Health Assessment Across the Lifespan and Medical Surgical Nursing―A Conceptual Approach. She has presented internationally on funded research in the area of patient recovery following ambulatory surgery, in addition to the psychometric testing and translation of the functional health pattern screening assessment tool and knowledge development in nursing. She is a Past President of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association and current President of Eastern Nursing Research Society and has worked to promote knowledge-based practice in clinical settings.
