Synopsis
Object-Oriented Programming with Java was developed for students in the science, engineering, and business fields where knowledge of programming is thought to be essential. This text, on modern software development, contains material that is typically covered in a CS1 course. In addition to traditional introductory programming concepts, object-oriented concepts and techniques such as inheritance and polymorphism are presented in a student-friendly manner. Java-related topics such as exception handling and the Java I/O models are carefully treated, and an entire chapter is devoted to Java applets.

About the Authors
Barry J. Holmes, M.S., Oxford Brookes UniversityBarry Holmes is a Principal Lecturer and the Director of Professional Studies in the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at Oxford Brookes University, England. He joined the School in 1979, and lectures on computer programming languages, software engineering and safety-critical systems courses to undergraduate and postgraduate audiences. He is a member of the British Computer Society and a Chartered Engineer. He graduated from the University of London in 1971 with a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Physics, and a Certificate in Education; he was also awarded an M.Sc. in Computer Science from The City University (London) in 1977.
Daniel Joyce is an Associate Professor with the Computing Science department at Villanova University. He enjoys managing the departments' project-based courses. Joyce's research interests are in software engineering with a focus in software requirements identification. He is also active in the computer science education community.
