Synopsis

This book examines "eternal colonialism," a term used to describe the policies that were designed by the Western world and the United States in order to keep most of the world in a permanently subordinate political, economic, social, and military state. Eternal colonialism is a combination of both internal and external colonialism, or neocolonialism. Benjamin and Hall argue that the colonialism beginning in the fifteenth century never ended, but rather developed different forms over time. The scope of their work examines eternal colonialism in both American and international contexts. The authors contend that the United States practices internal colonialism within its borders, in addition to being fully engaged in external colonialism. Eternal Colonialism will prove essential to those who want to understand the ongoing global tension and turmoil, especially with regard to North-South relations. Furthermore, readers will see how the United States, arguably the greatest of the colonizers, practices colonialism within its own borders. About the Author

Russell Benjamin is associate professor of political science at Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, Illinois. Benjamin's research interests focus on the politics of race in the United States, especially as they intersect with entrepreneurship, consumerism, internal colonialism, and policies toward the Caribbean. He has presented his research throughout the United States and in the Caribbean.

Gregory O. Hall is department chair and associate professor of political science at Morehouse College, Atlanta, Georgia. He received BA's in political science and German from Northwestern University, and his MA and PhD in political science from Howard University. Hall's research focuses on international relations/security, foreign policy, and international political economy. A former Fulbright Scholar (Russia), he has also lived and taught in Hong Kong and Turkey.
