Synopsis

Track Record is a pictorial study of the halcyon days of motor sport, covering nearly every Formula 1 Grand Prix, Le Mans 24-Hour race and World Sports Car Championship meeting between 1953 and 1980. Drawn from the collection of former The Motor magazine Chief Photographer, Maurice Rowe, much of the material is previously unpublished - and every one of the 310 images sheds a new light on a period in sporting history which many enthusiasts remember as a golden age. With nearly 50 colour pictures dating as far back as 1962, Track Record also presents a rare opportunity to see both the drivers and the teams - Brabham, McLaren, Porsche, Vanwall, Cooper and of course Ferrari - in their true colours. Each photograph is individually captioned by the photographer; his first-hand reminiscences make this book a truly unique record of the age.

From the Publisher

Maurice Rowe was born in London in 1927, and has lived in Barnet, north London, since 1958. An early passion for aviation prompted him to turn up at the offices of Temple Press, publishers of The Aeroplane and The Motor magazine, in 1944, where he was offered a job in the photographic department - despite his protestations that he 'wasn't interested in photography.' He stayed with the company until 1988, working first on such diverse publications as The Aeroplane, Motorcyling and Cycling - and eventually working full-time on The Motor. A London man through-and-through, he has lived in Barnet with his wife, Beryl, since 1958 and continues to resist all her efforts to get him to move to the countryside.
