From the Author

malcolm x,ella l.little-collins family archive.
first of all i woluld like to thank you for your interest in my book,i wanted to share with you some of the letters from the Malcolm X,Ella lee.Little-Collins family Archive.Growing up a constant with my uncle was his relationship with his family, especially with my mother,as i say in the book Malcom was not a self made man,he rejuvenated constantly from the support of his family.these letters illustrate just one of those relationships.they are in addition to the ones in my book, the seventh child.a family memoir of malcolm x.this is a letter from my uncl to my mom while he was in prison dated jan31,1949. My dear sister, i really looked for you today, more so than any other timesince i came to prison.graci told me someone had been by to see you concerning me but she did'nt know the particulars. You could never imagine how extremely important it is that i see you as soon as possible.i know how busy you are,and its hard for you to get here now,but do please take the taxi and come out alone if the car is'nt running....or else ask mary,if she will dash out.even mozelle.I've been wanting a private chat with you since last june, but you've always had someone with you when you came out, there are many things you don't know. Do give my best to all especially Aunts sas and gracie.Hilda sent me a picture of both of them that you took when she was here.Do be sweet Your Brother malcolm P.S i know i should'nt expect so much but i will look for you thursday.OK? this is one dated from jan 15 1955 My dear sister, i enjoyed my chat with you friday tremendously, and though you wree'nt able to come to the meeting that night,i am thankfull that you were able to get toni to come. she seeme to be very wise, and down to earth and i think she nderstood what we were teaching and enjoyed herself.it is hard today to get people to even listen to the truth,so we are doubly thankfull to get someone to listen, accept and then act accordinglyto what they understand of the truth.toni listened very attentively and if she continues to go there and get a more thorough understanding,it will change her entire life. i don't know when i'll be back in town, but i would advise you to attend those meetings as often as possible, because it opens your eyes to different things around you, your past experiences will make everything more easily understandable than it now is even to the others.YOU YET DON'T REALIZE WHAT TIME IT REALLY IS.in your spare time go there, listen to those lecturesand THEN do whatever you wish....but at least go a few times and listen.i can't see anyone with your brain passing anything like this up,unless you just are't allowing yourself to look far enough ahead to see the VALUE in knowing these things.Today only the wise can survive ,or attain peace of mind..... Concerning the other move you are wondering whether or not to make:Be wise.use good judgement.Hope to see you soon. Your brother Malcolm if a man had robbed a bank of a million dollars and a traffic cop wanted to argue with him about a minor traffic violation(not knowing the car actually contained a million dollars)----------- would you blame the man for talking low ------- or should he exert his authority?(smile) another one from mecca in 1964 Assalaam Alaikum My dear sister Ella, i can never thank you enough for making it possible for me to make this trip,& i pray every day for Allah to grant you health so you can make it too. However i'm glad i came first so now i can give you an idea of what to expect,I have had it easy because i've been a state guest of his excellency Prince Faisal, the ruler of Arabia.I have been staying in the best hotels in jeddah,Mecca & Minna with a car and a guide at my disposal at all times, including several other servants.I have never been treated with sush honour anywhere. They have truly treated me like a King.I have made 28 circuits around the Kaaba, and may visit it one more time before leaving, insha Allah.I will have to wait until i see you to tell you all the other blessings of this trip.Neither time nor space will permit it now. Please give my best love and wishes for sucess to the believers there. All of them should learn the correct way that muslims pray, and should learn the prayer in Arabic. It is a must, otherwise they will always be embarrased at prayer time. The correct prayers or the correct way of praying is the same to the muslim that flour is to bread(an absolute essential)I will write again, first chance i get . As Salaam Alaikum El-Hajj malik El-shabazz I am writing from the Holy city of Mecca. in writing this book i hope to give you the reader a personal look at a man so much has been written about. Rodnell Collins
