Synopsis
The learning centre concept calls for a distinctive, learner-centred response to supporting and improving the quality of student learning. These writings explore what this approach can mean in practice at four UK universities. The essential characteristic of the learning centre approach is that it is actually centred on learning: its fundamental raison d'etre is institutional teaching and learning strategy, not information provision or technological convergence although these are likely to be important parts of the equation. This approach is evident in the vision statement, mission and objectives of the service, which seeks to place it firmly in the context of the organisation's teaching and learning agenda.
