Review

This unofficial guide offers an entertaining and irreverent analysis of Star Trek: Voyager. After a brief look at the show's beginnings and thumbnail descriptions of the regular characters, the bulk of the book is taken up with an episode-by-episode guide to seasons one through five, plus a preview of the first few episodes of season six. For each story, David McIntee provides a plot outline, behind the scenes trivia, bloopers, comments on continuity and the accuracy (or otherwise) of the science, plus an overall verdict. Doubtless many readers will disagree with his opinions about favourite episodes, but that is part of the fun of this kind of book.

Delta Quadrant will appeal more to regular fans than newcomers. The pulp paperback format does not include photographs, and the lack of any real overview makes it of limited value as a first-time introduction. However, for fans in search of detailed trivia, there is plenty here to keep them amused, from star dates to memorable dialogue. The only real omission is a comprehensive listing of guest stars. Overall, this is a useful guide, and its tongue-in-cheek style makes it fun to dip into. --Elizabeth Sourbut
