About the Author

David Burnie studied zoology and botany at the University of Bristol in England, and has worked as a nature reserve ranger and biologist. He has written and contributed to many award-winning books and multimedia titles, and has also acted as a consultant and scriptwriter for a number of natural history programmes on television. David is an avid birdwatcher, bug-hunter and botanist, and has travelled all over the world, from the Arctic to Tierra del Fuego, studying animals and plants. Tony Juniper is the executive director of the UK division of Friends of the Earth International, a worldwide collection of groups campaigning for the protection of wildlife and habitats.
