Synopsis
After accompanying John Blashford Snell on a horseback expedition to Outer Mongolia, Barbara Whittome decided to cross-breed the tough Cossack working horses with her pedigree Arab horses back home in Suffolk. Rather than transporting them by truck, she "road-tested" three of them back from Volgograd - a journey which she recounts in this book, which is based on a diary which she kept daily on her computer. It is not only an account of the 2500-mile ride through Russia, Belarus, Poland and Western Europe, but also includes observations on bandits, vodka, horses, and contemporary Russian life and people.

The tale of my 2,500 mile ride from Russia to England
In 1995 I rode a Cossack stallion and two mares from Russia through Byelarus and Poland back to my home in England. We fought off bandits and I had to negotiate with Kalashnikov-toting police almost every day. The team endured blazing heat when we set out, and bitter cold and snow by the end of our journey. This is my story.
In 1999 I rode the Outlaw Trail from the Mexican border to the Hole-in-the-Wall, a feat of much greater endurance, both physical and mental. I hope my book on that ride will soon be published, probably under my maiden name, Barbara Cornwall-Legh.
