Review

The National Curriculum states that by around the age of 11 most children will be able to achieve the following targets, that are set for Key Stage Two Science: scientific inquiry:

  • recognise that scientific ideas are based on evidence, suggest practical ways to answer scientific questions
  • set up a fair test by varying one thing while keeping everything else the same
  • make predictions and make a series of observations or measurements
  • record them using tables, bar charts and simple graphs
Backyard Science has more than 50 safe and achievable garden-based experiments that will help your children reach those targets. Packed with hundreds of colour photographs and detailed instructions, this is a book that will teach children massive amounts about science, mostly with things that are found around the garden. Suitable for ages 8 and above. --Amanda York

Please note: some experiments may require adult supervision.
