When you read a book like this one, you can't help wondering why someone didn't say, "By the time it's published, it's going to be totally out of date."
Well, not totally. Part of Dorling Kindersley's "Essential Computer (Internet)" series, the book does have some useful information on, say, the difference between a real search engine (HotBot, or Google) and a Web directory (Yahoo!, or Excite), and on how to use advanced search features. But you've got to wonder about any book that flags up a Microsoft Outlook feature as a "specialised search" option.
A book only for the total beginner. If you're even slightly familiar with the concept, it's redundant and occasionally patronising. Better luck next time, and don't forget to mention who watches the watchers: searchenginewatch.com --Liz Bailey
