"Sport Management: Principles and Application" provides a comprehensive introduction to the practical application of management principles within sport organisations operating at the community, state, national and professional levels in club based sporting systems. It presents an international balanced view between accepted practice and what research evidence tells us about the application of a range of management principles and practices in sport.Structured in three parts it investigates: the history of the evolution of sport and the current drivers of change in the sport industry, the role of the state, non-profit and professional sectors in sport. It looks at core management principles and their application in sport, highlighting the unique features of how sport is managed compared to other sectors of the economy. Dr. Russell Hoye, Associate Professor in Sport Management, School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Latrobe University, Victoria, Australia. Russell worked at Victoria University of Technology as a lecturer in recreation and sports management for six years from 1993 before assuming a position as a Project Manager with the Victorian State Government Department of Sport and Recreation. Since 1998, Russell has also managed his own consulting practice in recreation and community development, focussing on community based organisational development. In 2002/03 Russell worked as a Lecturer in Sports Management at Griffith University, before commencing at La Trobe University in 2004. Russell's main teaching areas comprise - sport management, and organisational behaviour. Russell serves as the Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies for the School of Tourism and Hospitality and is a member of the Faculty of Law and Management Research and Graduate Studies Committee. He is a former board member of the Australian and New Zealand Association for Leisure Studies (ANZALS) and the Guest Editor for a special issue of Sport Management Review on professional sport in Australia and New Zealand due for publication in 2005. Dr Matthew Nicholson is Associate Professor in Sport Management at the School of Human Movement and Sport Sciences University of Ballarat, Australia. His research and teaching interests focus on the relationship between sport and the media, the contribution of sport to social capital and sport policy development and practice. His most recent books include Sport Management: Principles and Applications (2005) with Elsevier and Australian Sport: Better by Design? The Evolution of Australian Sport Policy (2004) with Routledge.
