Synopsis

This textbook of gastrointestinal endoscopy takes a new look at endoscopic training. In particular, it explains the recently developed guidelines for training and practice, including indications for procedures, conscious sedation, disinfection and obtaining informed consent. The book comprises four sections, an introduction (including the ASGE guidelines), and chapters on upper GI endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy and ERCP. Although the book is designed to cater principally for the trainee, of necessity some therapeutic techniques are described, as often diagnosis and therapy are achieved in one procedure. Care has been taken to indicate those procedures which require additional training and experience before unsupervised use.
