This volume tackles more advanced themes often found in longer three-semester, or specialist further advanced postgraduate courses. Written for advanced students, the work provides complete material for a two or three semester course and includes numerous exercises, some with detailed solutions. Readers of this text will be well prepared to follow the theoretical developments in the field.

Badis Ydri―currently a professor of theoretical particle physics, teaching at the Institute of Physics, Badji Mokhtar Annaba University, Algeria―received his PhD from Syracuse University, New York, USA and in 2011 his Habilitation from Annaba University, Annaba, Algeria. Professor Ydri is also a research associate at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, Dublin, Ireland, and a regular ICTP associate at the Abdus Salam Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. His post-doctoral experience comprises a Marie Curie fellowship at Humboldt University Berlin, Germany, and a Hamilton fellowship at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, Ireland. His current research directions include: the gauge/gravity duality; the renormalization group method in matrix and noncommutative field theories; non-commutative and matrix field theory; quantum gravity as emergent geometry, emergent gravity and emergent cosmology from matrix models.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. This volume tackles more advanced themes often found in longer three-semester, or specialist further advanced postgraduate courses. It provides an introductory review to contemporary advanced topics in QFT, in particular, lattice field theory, topological field configurations, supersymmetry and the AdS/CFT correspondence, and it includes a systematic introduction to the functional renormalization group equation with application in noncommutative scalar field theory. Some non-perturbative methods, which allow exact solutions in lower dimensions, or due to the larger number of symmetries involved, are also discussed. This new edition also includes chapters added on noncommutative field theory and the SYK models.Key Features:Reorganized, updated and extended new editionFour new chapters.Additional exercisesSuitable for extended courses This volume tackles more advanced themes often found in longer three-semester, or specialist further advanced postgraduate courses. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. A Modern Course in Quantum Field Theory provides a self-contained pedagogical and constructive presentation of quantum field theory. It contains a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental topics of quantum field theory starting from free fields and their quantization, renormalizable interactions, critical phenomena, the standard model of elementary particle physics, lattice field theory, the functional renormalization group equation, non-commutative field theory, topological field configurations, exact solutions of quantum field theory, supersymmetry and the AdS/CFT correspondence. The emphasis throughout is put on the physical principle of symmetry (especially the local principle of gauge symmetry) and on the mathematical machinery of Wilsons renormalization group equation. In this updated and extended edition in addition to including new exercises and developments in the field, the author broadens the coverage by including new chapters on the phi-four theory in one and two dimensions, an introduction to particle physics, noncommutative field theory, and group theory. In addition the order of the chapters has been reorganized between the volumes and other chapters completely rewritten to better match changes in curricula and contemporary course structure. Written for advanced students, the work provides complete material for a two or three semester course and includes numerous exercises, some with detailed solutions. Readers of this text will be well prepared to follow the theoretical developments in the field and undertake research projects as part of an MSc or PhD programme.
