As a consequence of new experimental techniques in optical and collision physics, such as multiphoton excitation and VUV radiation generation, quantum defect theory (QDT) has become more widely used as a theoretical tool for experimentalists. Drawing together a historical body of work that contains key research and review papers, Molecular Applications of Quantum Defect Theory studies the QDT and its applications. The book presents all of the elements required to perform useful work in the field while highlighting the versatility and vast possibilities of the applications of the quantum defect method. It begins with an introductory essay written by Professor M. Seaton, one of the pioneers of the field, who outlines the historical development of QDT. The book also includes a substantial bibliography section.
