This combined atlas and information book focuses on contemporary environmental issues, from deep-sea pollution to the hole in the ozone layer, and from overpopulation to desertification. Its aim is to describe the important issues and to point to ways in which the problems can be solved. After an introductory section on the richness of life on Earth and the dangers it faces, each of the subsequent chapters highlights one major issue and features a double-page colour map which places the subject in its world context. The team of ten authors from around the world was chosen with a view to providing an accurate reflection of the global dimensions of the issues covered.
