Review

Natural and herbal forms of healing are enjoying a renaissance but their legacy goes back to pre-Christian times. Today's homeopaths and aromatherapists would have burned at the stake a few hundred years ago and until recently have been dismissed and derided by the medical establishment. Thus it seems only logical to approach the framework from which these modern philosophies are plucked with a healthy modicum of respect.

Here Sue Bowes encourages women to "reconnect with their innate inner magic and reclaim it" in accessible and, for the most part, sceptic-friendly language which makes this a great introductory guide to those who are uninitiated but curious. She outlines simple methods for healing and self-discovery through a combination of natural and imaginative rituals.Activities include planning a seduction dinner during a waxing moon, clearing a space of negative energy using salt water and a burning switch of sage and communing with your own psychic representations of female archetypes such as Gaia the Earth Goddess or the Wise Woman/Evil Temptress.

Whether or not you can do this without giggling doesn't matter, the key point is just to "enjoy the process" and give yourself some TLC. And there are certainly few more enjoyable ways than these time-honoured traditions to re-centre you on your purpose in life and remind you what a powerful and fantastic woman you are! --Rebecca Johnson
