"This clearly written book by a highly qualified professor and consultant compares strategies used in business with those used by many historical war figures such as Hannibal, Marshal Joffre, and Karl von Clauswitz. The author defines and compares strategies and tactics, explains how to prepare a business plan, discusses how to measure strategies, and indicates why it is important to quantify strategies. Although the book is strong in explaining how to identify and quantify formulated strategies, it is very limited in providing an understanding of how to qualitatively evaluate and implement formulated strategies. For example, the author assumes that it is inherently bad to formulate diverse strategies; yet, it is possible for companies, e.g., General Electric, to formulate very diverse strategies successfully due to excellent implementation.
