Synopsis
This work looks at the ideas and events of the French Revolution and introduces the different kinds of source available to historians. It discusses the significance of Jean-Jacques Rousseau in relation to the French Revolution and the relevance today of his thoughts on democracy. It also looks at the work of Jacques-Louis David, the 'official' painter of the Revolution and the contrasting work of Caspar David Friedrich, one of the first Romantics.
