Synopsis

This unit concentrates on the concept of a real function, and on how to draw the graph of such a function. It introduces a strategy for doing this. It revises the graphs of various common functions, and introduces a wide range of further functions, including trigonometric and hyperbolic functions, and their properties. Finally this unit looks at some curves which are not necessarily the graphs of functions, but which are described in terms of a single parameter. These include circles, parabolas, hyperbolas and ellipses, known collectively as conics.

One subsection is intended to be studied in conjunction with an audio, available in the Introduction Block Pack (order code M208/MMPI).
