Review

Starting Computers is an information-packed book that is perfect for children interested in computers. Colourful illustrations and photographs, and simple, clear text, take readers through the computer basics, while fun activities, such as doodling, drawing and printing, and making cards and wrapping paper, encourage children to learn the PC basics. (Note: This is aimed at PCs that run Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 98 only).

Educationally, Starting Computers can also be used for home learning, to support Key Stage One English reading skills. The book is a great way of encouraging youngsters who are interested in computers to read different kinds of books, such as information books, therefore increasing their interest in reading generally. It may also help reluctant readers, by attracting them to the subject matter, rather than the activity of reading. (5 to 11 years) --Amanda York
