Synopsis
This book is a means for understanding the principles of modern Fourier optics and their role in the formation and processing of images, successfully meeting a need for an elementary explanation of the common themes of Fourier optics in a wide variety of imaging applications, both optical and otherwise. This second edition improves the clarity of treatment, extends the range of applications, and includes problems on the core chapters. The book also provides a means for understanding delta functions, frequency space, convolution and correlation, as well as Fourier series and transforms: all are widely used in present-day science and engineering. Other additions include appendices giving summary notes on main chapters, an appendix on maximum entropy data processing; a section on incoherent digital computer-based processing, and an appendix on signal processing. The book also studies radioastronomy and modern Fourier transform spectroscopy.
