Synopsis

The aim of this book is to give the layman in any developed country a sense of exactly what is covered by the term "groupware" and of how it will affect his/her life in ten years' time. Groupware - Computer Supported Co-operative Working (CSCW) to give it its formal name - currently means many things to many people, and with the acceleration in the rate of significant changes in the way people work and communicate, the market for these types of products is widely judged to constitute the most massive market of the 21st century. The book takes the form of over 30 essays. Contributors include Microsoft's Bill Gates, Jeff Papows of the Lotus Development Corporation, Professor Tom Malone of the MIT Sloan School, Esther Dyson of Release 1.0, Jan Wyllie of Trend Monitor International, Tony Durham of IT Horizons and Jay Nunamaker of the University of Arizona.
