Bernard is feeling more than a little left out. Only yesterday he and Squashy were best friends, but today Squashy has declared his allegiance to Ozzie Flat. To top it all, a rather large chap with very big hands is asking Bernard for money--and without his best friend he feels a little bit lost.
Bernard's Gangis a witty and hopeful little book by Dick Cate about the nature of friendship and the lot of the underdog. Well written, with sharp yet unobtrusive illustrations, this clever story is written with newly confident young readers in mind, allowing them to stretch both their vocabulary and their attention as the comic misadventures of Bernard, the boy worrier, hurtle towards their inevitable conclusions.
