The author says he was inspired to tell a story of World War II from an everyday person's experience after discovering over two hundred letters sent by my uncle, Harris Tucker, to our family from the time of his enlistment in August, 1942 through his bombing missions in early 1944 over various targets in Germany. There have been many books written about World War II, but this story tells us of the ordinary thoughts and concerns of an Army Air Force Serviceman throughout the various stages of his training and eventual combat life as a B-17 Pilot and 2nd Lieutenant.
