Synopsis
When Majorcan Inspector Enrique Alvarez is called upon to investigate the death of a woman found shot dead in her own home, all the evidence seems to point to her husband's guilt. Herod was far from rich, but his wife, Belinda, was. Add into the equation Belinda's reported belligerence towards her husband; his unsupported alibi; plus proof he had been having an affair and the case seems cut and dry. Except Alvarez just doesn't believe Herod is guilty. His reason? Instinct. Which doesn't go down too well with his superiors.When Alvarez's boss, Superior Chief Salas, declares Herod the prime suspect and orders his arrest, Alvarez is forced to take an absurd risk in the belief that justice should take precedence over the law...

About the Author
Roderic Jeffries was born in London in 1926 and was educated at Southampton's School of Navigation. In 1943 he went to sea with the New Zealand Shipping Company and returned to England in 1949 where he was subsequently called to the Bar. He practiced law for a brief period before starting to write full time. His books have been published in many different countries and have been adapted for film, television, and radio. He and his wife live in Mallorca, and have two children.
