Synopsis

The second issue of Ordo IV of the Amsterdam edition of the Latin texts of Erasmus comprises the Querela Pacis and Erasmus Latin translations of some of Plutarchs Moralia. The Complaint of Peace deals with peace and war, and the tension between love of ones country and St. Pauls admonishment to unity in Christianity.

Synopsis

This edition of the complete works of Erasmus of Rotterdam is arranged according to the division into nine ordines which Erasmus himself laid down for the posthumous publication of his collected works. Each ordo is devoted to a specific literary or thematic category. In this edition, each text is preceded by an historical introduction, and is accompanied by two sets of notes: an apparatus criticus (i.e. the text-critical notes) and a commentary, in which Erasmus' sources are identified and references to contemporary persons and events clarified. Subscription Conditions 1. No volume will be sold separately. Only orders for the complete works will be accepted. 2. The cancellation of a subscription will not be accepted except under special circumstances where permission of the publisher has been obtained. 3.
