About the Author
The Reverend W. Awdry is fondly remembered as the creator of Thomas the Tank Engine. The little blue engine and his friends on the Island of Sodor were originally invented to amuse the reverend's son, Christopher, when he was recovering from a bout of the measles. The first book in The Railway Series, entitled The Three Railway Engines, was published in 1945.

In very good purple bordered glossy covers with central colour image of three trains and man with bowler hat and black titles. The boards are straight, clean and tight; spine ends slightly bumped. Unmarked yellow, grey and black illustrated end papers. Clean cut edges. The text block is firm, flat and unmarked, very good condition, with bright colour illustrations by Gunvor & Peter Edwards on the right hand pages. No dedications etc. Issued without jacket.
