It charts his story from humble beginnings in Blackburn, to being Borough Treasurer in Kendal, looks at the compiling of the unique pictorial guides to the Lakeland Fells, his exposure in the mid-80s with the television series, and his death in 1991. It also includes sections of Wainwright's own writings and letters.

About the Author
Hunter Davies is the author of over thirty books, including biographies of Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and The Beatles, and several books about Lakeland. He is married to the novelist and biographer Margaret Forster, and they live half the year in London, half in the Lake District.
