Cloth. Condition: Very Good/Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. This volume contains the lost texts of Orwell's radio commentaries on the Second World War, recently discovered by W. J. West in the BBC archives. They form the first large-scale unpublished work of Orwell's to appear since his early death in 1950. Transmitted weekly - from December 1941, immediately after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbour, to February 1943 when the tide had finally turned in the Allies' favour - they cover the most critical period of the war. The editor's notes supply all necessary background details, including many facts that were not known to Orwell and his colleages at the time. Orwell's text is given in full; passages deleted by the censor have been restored where legible. Today's readers could hardly have a better, or more vivid, account of this crucial period in human history as seen by contemporaries. Very slight shelf wear to top edge of D/J.
