Ackerley, poet, dramatist, novelist, and literary editor who masterminded the Art and Book pages of The Listener from 1935 to 1959, includes letters written to his mother , brother, sister , E M Forster, Lytton Strachey, Hugh Walpole, Brian Hill, Edmund Blunden, Sacheverell Sitwell , Stephen Spender , Clifford Dyment ; Bernard Shaw, Paul Nash, Walter Sickert, Sir Kenneth Clark , Henry Moore , Margaret Howard, Wyndham Lewis, Stephen Spender , Bertrand Russell , Fredric Warburg, John Wickens, Francis King , Desmond Shawe- Taylor, Oscar Collier, Goeffrey Gorer and many other prominant people. The result is a revealing portrait of his personal life, his standards and ambition, and many facets of a highly complex character .
