'Samson' catches a young man at the last stages of struggle with a
dominating father. He suffers several final humiliating setbacks before
reaching the verge of an ambiguous emotional independence. The play is
written with irony, compassion and humour. It was produced at the Soho
Lunchtime Theatre Club in June 1970.

'Alison Mary Fagan' breaks new ground in concepts about plays. It revolves
around a real person (Alison Fiske, the actress) and shows in successive
scenes details of her marriage, her fantasy life, her dreams and ambitions.
In its entirety, it is a beautiful and poignant study of the mind and
emotions of a young woman.

About the Author

David Selbourne was born in London in 1937, educated at
Manchester Grammar School and Balliol College, Oxford, and trained as a
lawyer. He taught political theory for many years at Ruskin College,
Oxford.
