`Alison Mary Fagan' breaks new ground in concepts about plays. It revolves around a real person (Alison Fiske, the actress) and shows in successive scenes, details of her marriage, her fantasy life, her dreams and ambitions. In its entirety, it is a beautiful and poignant study of the mind and emotions of a young woman.

David Selbourne was born in London in 1937, educated at Manchester Grammar School and Balliol College, Oxford, trained as a lawyer and is now a tutor in political theory at Ruskin College, Oxford.
