This welcome trend enables a species to be identified as that particular species, regardless of its common name, and it is applicable throughout the world. However, most readers have little or no idea what the Latin names mean, or indeed why the names are given; no attempt is made to 'translate' the Latin names into English or to explain the reason for the names.
