About the Author

Rob Buttress has sailed for over 20 years and has worked in all areas of the computer industry. He was the commercial manager for a leading marine navigation software company and was a marine electronic systems consultant before skippering a superyacht in the Caribbean. Tim Thornton studied naval architecture and worked on yacht design and race handicappping systems, becoming a marine computing research scientist for IBM, and one of the pioneers of on-board computer systems for racing yachts. His experience ranges from supplying systems for offshore events such as Around Alone and the Volvo Round the World Races though to the needs of superyachts and weekend sailors.
