About the Author

Doreen Curran studied art and design at Norwich Art School in England before leaving for Australia in 1948. She has lived in Sydney ever since, integrating her family life with her working life of selling and marketing. When the opportunity arose, Doreen resolved to revive her earlier interests in the creative world by studying ceramic sculpture, figure drawing, cake ornamenting and stained glass work. It was not until she enrolled in the commercial Needlecraft Certificate course at Dover Heights College of Technical and Further Education that she found the right niche. Since gaining the Certificate (with distinction) she has won prizes and acclaim for her work. She has exhibited with the Sydney Creative Embroiderers and the Embroiderers' Guild of NSW, and is a member of both organisation. Doreen has given demonstrations and workshops, has been a tutor at the embroiderers' Guild's classes, and a guest lecturer at TAFE.
