This book covers the basic Strength of Materials of the first two years of an engineering degree or diploma course; it does not deal with the more specialised topics of the final year of such courses. Each chapter consists of a concise but thorough statement of theory, followed by a number of examples in which the theory is amplified and extended. A large number of unworked examples, with answers, is also included. The majority of examples have been taken from examination papers, suitably converted to SI units. There are over 500 such examples.
