ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Between the two of them, Leslie and Elizabeth have made just about every bad deal possible. Leslie was paid too little for writing a bestseller and Beth paid too much for her first house. They realised that like a lot of women they needed to learn how to negotiate. They weren’t alone – most women they knew confessed they didn’t know much about striking a good deal – whether they were buying a car, getting a new job, or splitting up the housework with their partner or husband. So they decided to write this much needed book.
They started off by researching the best available books on negotiating but they quickly found that most were speaking almost exclusively to a male audience. They interviewed academics about recent research on men’s and women’s negotiating abilities. Research shows that women have the same skills as men, and that most women have some extra advantages, such as well-polished listening skills and a capacity for empathy, that provide an edge at the bargaining table. Finally, they searched out women who had learned how to make win-win deals, from women running a family and home to entrepreneurs.
