Week-End Wodehouse - required reading at country house parties in the late Thirties - remains one of the best introductions to the work of a writer who, in Hilaire Belloc's words, 'nearly always approaches, and often reaches, perfection'. ll the old favourites are here- Drones Club stories, Mr Mulliner stories, stories of Jeeves, Lord Emswort and Ukridge. But this hugely entertaining selection also contains generous extracts from the novels and non-fiction writings. ust as in its original edition Week-End Wodehouse is introduced by Hilaire Belloc and wittily decorated with illustrations by Kerr.

P.G. Wodehouse was born in Guildford, Surrey, in 1881 and educated at Dulwich College. After working for the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank for two years, he left to earn his living as a journalist and story-writer. He wrote over ninety books and his work has won worldwide acclaim. He was hailed by The Times as 'a comic genius recognised in his lifetime as a classic and an old master of farce.' P.G. Wodehouse said- 'I believe there are two ways of writing novels. One is mine, making a sort of musical comedy without music and ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right deep down into life and not caring a damn.' n 1975 he was created a Knight of the British Empire and he died on Valentine's Day in the same year at the age of ninety-three.
