Walk One Richmond and Easby
Start Richmond
Distance 3.75 miles (6km)
Height gain 460 feet (140m)
Approximate time 2 hours
Route terrain City streets and riverside paths
Parking Car park on Victoria Road (Pay and Display)
This easy half-day stroll begins in the centre of Richmond, a fascinating place to explore at the end of the walk. It is nowhere difficult, with good paths alongside and through riverside meadows, and always the delightful Swale for company. The remains of Easby Abbey add considerable interest to the walk, and are easily visited.
For ease of parking, the walk begins from a car park along Victoria Road. From it, head eastwards along Victoria Road, passing playing fields on the left, to the junction with Queen's Road (the main road, which here bears left) and King Street. At this junction go forward to pass the King's Head pub and enter a narrow street, Ryders Wynd, which leads down to Frenchgate. Turn left and sson bear right into Station Road. Shortly before the road crosses the river, leave it by branching left into a side lane leading to a few houses, and there bear right onto a roughly surfaced lane that soon degenerates into a broad track.
