The dead body of a man is discovered at the foot of the 250 feet precipice of the Avon Gorge - a not uncommon place for suicides. But is this just another suicide. The inquest is adjourned pending further inquiries, by the Police, and the Chief Detective Inspector May, C.I.D. Homicide, is detailed to investigate the mysterious circumstances of this death. This is by no means a simple matter, and leads eventually to the exhumation of another dead body, and finally to a shattering tragedy which even May did not anticipate. Only the inimitable May - that tall, lean, gaunt figure, would have solved this final murder, by digging right down to grasp it. Additional information: Selman Taylor aka Elsie Selman, of Knowle, Kent is the author of The Marshmead Murders.
