Synopsis
Luella Rochdale, gay, immoral and generous-hearted, runs a gambling house in Victorian London. Luella's sole ambition - a successful marriage for her daughter, Eustacia - is achieved when Eustacia becomes the wife of Julian Kershaw, heir to Dragonmede. But the marriage is passionate, stormy and disillusioning. Eustacia discovers that life in country society is no more respectable than in London. Worse, at Dragonmede it is accompanied by sinister legend and fear, plus the shock of learning how her marriage was manipulated, and why.
