Widely acclaimed as a source book of ideas for schools, community groups and all those working creatively with children, Children Dancing is invaluable for those who know little about dance as well as the more experienced. This new edition has been updated and revised to include new material and the numerous links between dance and other art forms are emphasized. Since Children Dancing was first published, a huge interest has developed in community dance and the increase in its provision has made it far more accessible. By using dance in schools, teachers have the opportunity to explore the connection between dance, music, the visual arts and language and to provide a base for inter-community arts.

I first used the original book by Rosamund Shreeves, when I was at teacher training college, when it came out in 1979. I was therefore interested in this edition, which is a much easier book to read and use, with its black and white photographs and wonderful characters and illustrations. It is well laid out and the descriptions simple enough for anyone to use. She uses very easy, descriptive vocabulary for dance movement ... I would recommend this book to teachers with no dance experience as a way of showing that everyone can, and should, dance. I would also recommend this book to the most experienced dance teacher because of its vitality, freshness and inspiration. Go out and buy it now! -- Jennifer Kuntner, DICE magazine, July 1990
Children Dancing, essentially a practical book, will be of use within many (of these) contexts and within any type of school or community group. Underlying these ideals is my belief in the joy and value of dance, not only for the individual but also for society.
